In 1777, one year into his reign, King Jung Jo navigates a treacherous palace life alongside his loyal court servant, Gap Soo, amidst political opposition and threats from ambitious rivals. Meanwhile, Eul Soo, a member of a covert assassin group, receives orders to eliminate Jung Jo. Unbeknownst to many, Gap Soo shares a dark past with Eul Soo, having once been part of the same secretive organization. When Gap Soo confides in Jung Jo about his past and his reasons for entering the palace, the king surprises him by asking when he abandoned his assassin ways and then instructs him to depart the palace. However, Gap Soo soon discovers that another assassin lurks within the court and rushes back, only to find Eul Soo engaged in combat with Jung Jo.
