Iljimae, A Single Stalk of Plum , Iljimae The Phantom Thief
Set during the Joseon Dynasty, Yong lived a double life: by day, he was a hooligan in the marketplace, but by night, he transformed into a thief who targeted corrupt government officials and distributed his loot to the poor. After each theft, he left behind a painting of a plum tree branch, earning him the name Iljimae. His primary motive, however, was not theft but a quest to find the owner of a uniquely designed sword he had witnessed being used to murder his father, a loyal servant of the emperor. Eun Chae, the daughter of a government official, had a deep empathy for the poor despite her privileged upbringing. She encountered Iljimae by chance and, despite never seeing his face, couldn't help but admire him for his principles and actions.
